This piece was inspired partly by Aztec skull racks (which I love and think are kinda pretty) and the work of another jewelry artist here on DA, specifically, this piece:

I love working with bone components, and have had these bone discs and skulls hanging out in my stash for a few months now. When I saw that necklace (you should look at it, too - Tis verrry nice) I had a hankering to pull them out and just hold them, and then my mind jumped to the images of Aztec skull racks. Much linking and hammering later, this is what I have. ^^ It's 16 inches of copper and bone, with custom handforged headpins I made for the skulls and a matching clasp, to boot.

And because of all the copper in it, it's got some HEFT. Seriously, I think I should weigh it sometime. It's not uncomfortably heavy, though. Soft of comforting, like a heavy blanket. ^_^ And I don't know about you guys, but I want to wear this to a fancy party and wait until people notice that I'm wearing a necklace covered in freaking SKULLS. Heh heh.

Love this - Keeper of the Bones. Just finished reading that. Anne Rice, couldn't put it down.

Ohhh - I KNEW that phrase in my head sounded familiar! I have a friend who's really into Anne Rice. Maybe that's where this came from? ^_^

Oh perhaps, but then maybe Anne Rice got it from somewhere too...

That is just too cute! I would wear that to a fancy party, to work or just about anywhere :)

It sounds silly saying it, but I think those little skulls are DARLING! Great color and bead choices, and I especially like the little snake squiggly that comes out of the skull. I know, I know, my technical terms are just amazing!

Thank you - It did take some time, but the most difficult part was in deciding how to do the headpins to hold the skulls in place. I tried doing plain spheres, but that didn't work, then making a leaf/blade shape, but that didn't look right, and then I tried this and it worked! ^_^
