This is something different, eh? ^_^
This is a prop I made in about six hours, and it is a huge "first of firsts" for me. I have never done any leatherworking, and the last time I did any metalworking with metal that isn't wire was back when I was 17 and making my Sailor Jupiter tiara for my Halloween costume.
Anyway, to sum up - This is a prop for the Pittsburgh Stage Combat Society. We needed a crown, and I realized, "Hey, I've got some sheet copper laying around!" so I volunteered to make it. Later, upon looking at the copper, I realized that it was far too thin to make into a crown. Thicker than aluminum foil, but I can still score it with my fingernail. We DO have really thick leather and antique brass finish rivets laying around, though. "Aha! I can rivet the copper to the leather and then I can do nifty things to the copper!"
Ta dah! ^_^ I am quite proud of my hare-brained scheme, and it looks nice, too. The only problem is that it's a bit small, but the fabric roll does a good job of keeping it in place and making it fit well. At least it looks masculine; it's supposed to be a king's crown, after all. I wanted to make a prop that would last, and one that looked nice. Everyone is up there in cool costumes and armor and waving around steel blades; you can't have a cheezy crown, you just can't.
It was really hard to categorize - It combines leatherworking, metalworking, jewelry and fabric skills, so I put it in "Other" under Artisan Crafts. Mods, if this is in the wrong place, please move it.
dude! I have a degree in theatre (or will in a week!) and I am moving to pittsburgh (in 2 weeks!) I need to know more about this stage combat thingy! woot!
Thank you. ^_^ It actually fit pretty well with everything onstage - The throne is gold with red cushions, the queen is wearing black and red, our organization's coors are black and gold (of course)... It was a happy coincidence.
