Finding baby socks that freaking stay on is like trying to find the Holy Grail. So in true artisan fashion, I'm going to try and make some!

These are tall, handknit socks in a nice verigated cotton. They've got ribbing along the top AND around the ankle (a feature inspired by some tabi socks I have from Sock Dreams), along with some shaping in the calf to account for the chub. ^_^ She's a good-sized girl!

These socks stayed on for two whole hours! During playing on the floor, a walk, AND storytime. They're a bit too big for her, but I imagine they'll fit all right in a few weeks and I can check their effectiveness better then. I'm going to make another pair of tall socks, and I've got ideas for improvements.

The pattern is, well... Me looking at a ton of sock, slipper and bootie patterns and coming up with my own. The hard part was remembering to count my rows and write everything down as I made the first one so that the second one matched. I have also learned that making socks is not hard at all! ^_^ Since I have giant, weird-shaped Hobbit feet, normal socks never fit right, which is why I generally go without.

Seriously, Native Americans have odd feet. Nike actually makes sneakers specially designed to accomidate our tall instep and square toes - [link] - I want a pair, but I can only get them from a Rez, and I don't live on one. :( This is also why I tend to live barefoot or in sandals. I love snow, but damn it sucks because I can't find boots that fit.

Awesome, adorable, amazing! I tried to over-use the alliteration as much as possible! That look on her face is priceless as well! So you knit too? You are one amazing woman!

Heh, thanks. ^^; Actually, knitting and chainmaile aren't too far off of each other. Both are a series of interconnected loops!

They feel comfy to me. ^_^ And Lemony approved the yarn color. I held some skeins up to her in the store and she lunged forward to grab this one. Kid loooves purple.

That's the typical baby look of utter confusion. "Guh? Buh? Wha?" Everything's so new and strange and exciting!

And she does love those socks. I just wish they fit NOW so she could wear them more often.
