BIG NEWS!

Mainly - I'm not doin' it.

There are many reasons why, but the main reason is that I do not like the contract. I feel it's unfair and in some parts it's downright illegal. I'm just too tired to go into specifics right now, but it sucks.

I also am rapidly losing faith in the venue. Several major people have gotten fed up with the new owner and left. Some of these people have been with the Festival for many years. I can't help but liken them to rats abandoning a sinking ship, smart rats who don't drown.

A third big thing - New Dress Code. No visible tattoos, no piercings, no gauged ears, no dreadlocks, unusual hair colors/styles, etc. The new owner already runs one of the big Faires out West, so he knows Rennies. By these rules half the vendors/performers here in Pittsburgh won't be able to tend their own booths or do any shows, myself included.

Last but not least...

Very important, this one.

Plenty more reasons, but these are the big ones. There are some personal things as well, partially in that my work just doesn't seem to... I don't know, it just doesn't fit. Not that it's bad by any means, but I don't feel like it really belongs there. I dunno, it's wierd.
Anyway, that's my big news and while I'm sad that I'll be missing out on all the fun (because it was a lot of fun last year) I know that I've made the right choice.
At least I can go to the RenFest as a spectator/attendant, and I can dress however I want! ^_^ :w00t:

Anyway, talk to you later!

Well, Otakon is looming on the horizon and the Ren Faire is coming fast on its heels. This means it's time to empty my PayPal into TRL and get my hands on more rings. I've heard they've been flaky with their orders of late but honestly, they're the best option and I trust them, so here's hoping nothing bad happens. I also have to build the booth at the Faire, but we can only be there during the day. ^_~ Maile happens at night!
As for my current medical woes, I've been told I need to schedule an allergy test after I argue with the Insurance People to see if they'll pay for it. Honestly I don't think my problems are due to allergies because things happen the same no matter where I live or where I go or what time of the year it is. The only constant is, like - Me wearing black? I dunno. I know what foods bother me and I know I can't handle pennicillin, but that's it. All I know is that anytime there's a bit of a sniffle going around I always catch it and it instantly turns from an annoyance into a full-blown sinus infection that lasts for weeks. They've given me meds (Singulaire and Flonase) but honestly things don't feel any different than what they normally do. I'll keep taking them, though. Who knows, maybe I'll go to Otakon and catch the Con Plague (like I always do) and they'll actually help it not turn into anything more than a sniffle.
In other news, Cheeks bit through my Wacom cable. :( I was able to solder it back together (again - it's been r'd before) but I still really want a new tablet. This one forgets it has drivers too often for my comfort lately and it's starting to "skip" more and more while I draw/paint. I would like a nice Intuos, but I realize the cords are a problem so I'm considering saving up for the wireless Graphire they have now so I don't have to worry about stupid cords.
Speaking of painting, I'm sure you've noticed that I've been drawing/painting again, which is something I've missed. Problem was I needed a muse. Luckily, :iconsr388: has come up with an addictive Eberron espionage campaign and I've got a cool character I actually care about to play with. Yay for RPG Obsessions! I now finally understand how people can go crazy for their RP characters.
Anyway, I'm going to go type more of Mal's backstory or do some more chainmaile or something.

Later!

Okay, I saw the doctor today for my follow-up regarding my sinusitis, and apparently I have a chronic condition. Every time I get a bit of a sniffle it turns into a full-blown sinus infection it seems, so she suspects that there's something structurally wrong with my sinuses. I'm going to be scheduling a CT scan tomorrow so they can get a really good look in there. I mentioned that my mom has a deviated septum and the doctor looked at my face and said, "Hmm, it does look like yours could be a bit deviated, too."
"Well, I used to be a bouncer and I did get punched in the face more than a few times. Would that do it?"
Her eyes got HUGE. "Well, yes, that could definately cause a problem! Why don't you schedule a CT scan once you leave, okay?"
So yeah - In the meantime I get flonase to help my nose drain normally in case a sniffle hits so I don't get another infection.
I also just got back from the dentist! I got some fillings taken care of, and I need a root canal, so that's next Monday. Fun times, eh?
Hell, if I'm really lucky I might get TWO root canals that day! Huz-zah. :sarcasm: I'm not worried, though. The dentist is really good and I hear root canals aren't half as bad as they sound, especially not anymore. Look at the Wiki, it's not that bad.
Anyways, I gots novocaine that needs to wear off, and I need to drink some tea to make it happen (or so I hear).

*UPDATE* I have survived the root canal and tomorrow will be on signifigantly less medication than I have in a while! ^_^ YAY! I hate having to take a ton of pills, I have a hard time remembering to do so. There are still more doctor and dentist visits in the works, but I have a feeling I'm heading into the home stretch as far as these are concerned. I've also finished my Link Shirt commission and decided to upload more of Mal's story. It's been kicking around on my hard drive for weeks now and I thought - Why not? So enjoy. In other news, we are Kodiak-watching this weekend as my mom visits my brother in Houston, so there's a dog in our house! Yes, this is the same dog that I've referenced as being on fire and doing other silly things.
Speaking of Kody Bear, I need to give her her medicine now. ^_^
And if anyone knows why my journal looks all wierd right now, please tell me. I don't have any tags in this section.

Sinusitis

Journal Entry: Tue May 27, 2008, 5:41 AM
  • Mood: Tired
  • Drinking: Water

Sinusitis - I has it.
And no, I will not show you it. It's quite bad.

Yeah, so - I've been up to working on my Link shirt commission in between trying to keep unpacking the house and mind the rabbits and all that normal house stuff.
The girls are getting along quite well, actually - Peek at my Flickr for many pictures of rabbity cute! [link]
But on Sunday, after we spent a fun night at Dave's (AKA Pester the Jester) place to celebrate his birthday, I woke up feeling awful. A pain in my nose and throat on the left side. It was wierd, I could swear there was something sharp up in there. Like I had a popcorn hull or a bit of a chip stuck somewhere up in the back of my mouth where my nose connects. I knew that wasn't the case, but it still felt really wierd.
But throughout the day I get progressively worse. I explain all the symptoms to my mom (a nurse) over the phone and she says that if I start to have problems with my throat or if it spreads to the other side then I should go in to see a doctor.
Anyway, after snorting copious amounts of saline solution up my nose in an attempt to rinse out some of the nastiness (it just kept coming!) I decided to not go to the stage combat meeting. I just felt too awful and I was feeling kind of loopy as well. Kind of fuzzy in a lot of places. I had a lot of trouble sleeping as well, and yesterday I started to get a terrible cough, and soon I was having trouble speaking. I was actually getting feverish, which is wierd for me.
Still, we ended up going to the Spring Festival at Sam, Ruth and Michael's, which was a lot of fun. I'm sure the good food helped me feel better, it was great, I just wish we didn't have to leave early because of me being sick.
But after the festival we went to McKnight (an area north of the city) to grab some books that we needed - I fell asleep in the car, and requested to that Brian grab me a manga - and right after that we came back here, got dressed in normal clothes, and we went to the ER, I was feeling that bad.
That was an adventure. A long and boring adventure, but one all the same. We got there a bit before 11 or so I think, and didn't get home until about 2 AM. It was actually pretty slow, but they were very short-staffed because of the holiday, it seemed. They did blood work, which meant I got to sit around with an IV in my arm for about two of those hours. I tried to nap on the bed they put me in, but it was an exam bed and not that comfy.
I'm pretty sure the reason they took so long with me is because there was this guy two rooms down from mine that was giving them a lot of trouble. He was yelling, screaming, cussing, fighting - I think he was homeless or on drugs or something like that. I know that the big orderly and the uniformed security guys they had around were called over at least five times, and they gave him like four doses of heavy sedatives just while I was there!
I was finally able to flag down a nurse and she brought Brian in with my manga - Yay! - but of course, about five pages in the doctor shows up and explains that I have an infection, they'll get someone to take out my IV, etc. You think I would have learned by now that killing my boredom would result in a quick release.
Anyways, I'm going to go lay down and drink some more water (fluids!) and finish said manga. I just wanted to give everyone an update becuase I've been very slow here on DA lately.

Later!
